In FosterFlow, segments are dynamic groups of users that update automatically based on the conditions you define.
You can create a Dynamic Segment using user events and attributes. This segment will automatically adjust dynamically in response to real-time user behavior and data. While building your segment, you only need to set the conditions once. After that, the segment will continuously add and remove profiles based on your criteria.

Real-time segmentation updates
Segmentation requests are processed as close to real-time as possible. This means your segment updates shortly after a user takes an action that qualifies them based on your defined criteria (e.g., placing an order, completing a specific event, or updating a profile attribute).
Segments with relative time conditions
There is an important distinction to understand when building segments with time conditions. When configuring the time range for an event, you can choose between fixed (absolute) dates and relative timeframes.
An absolute time condition relies on a specific, fixed date. For example, setting a condition to target users who made a purchase “before 2026/03/24” uses a static timeframe that does not change.

Conversely, conditions like “in the last 30 days” are relative since the timeframe constantly shifts forward day by day.
If a user takes an action that causes them to qualify for a segment with relative time conditions, they are added immediately. However, if a user no longer qualifies for a segment based purely on the passage of time (for example, if they do not make another purchase within the “last 30 days” window), they will be automatically removed from the segment as the system dynamically updates these relative time conditions.

Target audience
As you configure your segment conditions, FosterFlow calculates your Target audience. The Target audience represents the total number of users who meet the defined criteria and will receive your messages.
- Estimated Audience: While the backend task is running and the segment is actively populating, the system displays an estimated number of users.
- Exact Audience: Once the populating process is fully complete, the system displays the precise, actual number of users in the segment.
You can click the Refresh button in the top right corner of the panel at any time. This action fetches the most recent data, returning an updated estimate if the population task is still ongoing, or the exact count if the task has finished.
